First book I used to learn chords back in 8th grade.
Music Theory for Guitarists Tom Kolb. Hard to describe, the book is a warehouse of information. From music theory to scalesmodes and chord construction This book has it all and I learned more from this And they are explained extremely well with diagrams and plenty of background theory.

Why it’s not 5 star: Guitarists play chords that take a staff and a half and two sharps and a flat to notate all the time. May 25, gekko hzndbook it it was amazing. This book also deals with issues such as adjusting your guitar’s neck, the ‘playing action’ and amplification and should really be on the bookshelf of every self respecting guitar owner.
I purchased this edition instead of an earlier but, besides the cover, I find little difference. The Guitar Handbook Ralph Denyer.
A borrowed copy sent me looking for my own. It will also help you determine the difference between a crappy guitar and one that just isn’t adjusted very well.

The most comprehensive resource available for beginning and experienced guitarists alike, whether acoustic or electric. Playing the Guitar – Music theory, tuning, techniques.
Inside this section there is also a sub-section on rhythm guitar, setting tempo, time signatures, using chord charts, time values, etc. I saw this great deal and went for it. Two pages after that: Typeset by Rowland Phototypeserting Limited. It begins with the beginner, teaching good practicing habits, what to practice, improving fingering, chord progressions, reading tablature, tuning, action, right and left-handed techniques, etc.
This book also deals with issues such as adjusting your guitar’s neck, the ‘playing action’ and amplification and should really be on the bookshelf of A very complete sourcebook and ‘owner’s manual’ for both would-be guitarists and veteran axe-slingers.
I can’t help myself. Pink Floyd Pink Floyd. This section was actually fun to read and was quite informative about several guitar players who had influenced my own playing. People who bought this also bought.
