So while I found the character a fine example of existentialism, the only truly absurd thing in the plot was the murder itself. I finally had my lightbulb moment, realized that this was the point, and began to enjoy the read for what it was. Albert Camus follows this particular absurdist logic and portrays it stranad in his novel when Meursault, the protagonist, commits a murder and sees it neither as a moral or immoral act, but as a futile sttanac that should have no consequences.

The primary truly absurd thing is that our MC murders someone for seemingly no reason other than the sun made him very hot. Will probably come back to it when I have a greater understanding of philosophy.
However absurdism believes it is logically and humanly impossible to find any meaning of life. And how bad is the society that it thinks …more I think you are misinterpreting the book. It is well written, and managed to win a nobel somehow I have to believe that is due to the timesso if one isn’t much familiar with absurdism in particular, or existentialism in general, it may be worth a read.
The words of Albert Camus has the liberating thought and feeling, that freedom from the pain that I have been looking for. Why do they think they know how you have to react? What’s the Name o This itself is among the primary ideals of the Absurdists; for they believe that death is inevitable and that it is the only absolute in an intrinsically meaningless life. This was a bit of a ramble and not necessarily a cogent review.
Thematically, it’s a deep book that raises questions ranging from whether society conditions our emotions to how we deal with the difference betwee On a plot level, reading The Stranger is as exciting as watching your grandmother eat potatoes.
The last chapter is amazing and exactly what I was hoping for with an existentialist novel. Although the ending of each chapter was truly inspiring in its poetic description of death, overall the book’s narrative flow was just not right.
It explores the idea that there is no inherent meaning in the universe at least not one we can know through a very minimal plot involving a man whose mother dies and is later tried for the murder of an Arab.
